Many Moons by James Thurber 1st ED HC DJ (1943, ‘56 Printing)

Thurber, James. Many Moons. Illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, [1956]. Copyright 1943; later printing bearing code F.7.56. Hardcover in red cloth with illustrated endpapers and color illustrations throughout. With publisher's pictorial dust jacket, retaining the $2.95 price.

Thurber's charming fairy tale follows Princess Lenore, who believes that possessing the moon will cure her illness, and the resourceful court jester who finds a solution. Illustrated with Louis Slobodkin's expressive, colorful drawings, which won the 1944 Caldecott Medal.

Very good book in a good dust jacket. Pages show gentle age toning, with illustrations remaining bright. Jacket has rubbing, scattered marks, edge tears and chipping, with losses at the spine ends and corners. An attractive vintage copy with the original Slobodkin illustrations.
